Surrender to the Present Moment

Spring has arrived. How do we feel about this time and season of the sun cycle? For some, a mid-winter depression might be creeping in. For others, an optimistic air of feeling “lucky” rules the day. For those keeping track of new year goals, are we on target? Faltering just a bit? Have they been altogether abandoned? How about the “seize the day” and “every day is a new beginning” folks? Maybe you fall somewhere in the middle of all these options. I certainly can attest to feeling a bit fragmented in some areas and focused and on fire in others.
This season I am exploring the idea of “surrender” - more specifically, “surrender to” in the context of life happening all around and within me. So often the mere idea of surrender is immediately framed in negative connotations – in giving up or losing. For purposes of this month’s inspiration, I am drawing upon the concept as a powerful positive influence to well-being. When we surrender to fully experiencing every nuance of our lives – the full continuum of high, delightful moments through the depths of despair and frustration – we are able to release control and instead utilize our energies to flow with our experiences. By releasing expectations and framing our experiences as an ongoing exercise of mind, body, and spirit we become agile. In this sense, we are “surrendering to” the currents of life and thriving rather than working so hard at controlling every experience or relationship. Sounds a lot like mindfulness, yes? Sounds a lot like faith, yes?
This season, feeling lucky or not, I challenge you to surrender to what is, let go of what was, have faith in what will be. Treasure each moment and harness the opportunity that lies before us in all situations throughout each day and every season. The Universe is continually working in our favor.
